Information Technology and Communications @ Arup

In my first summer (2023), I was introduced to large-scale telecommunications projects that pushed me beyond my comfort zone. I had to quickly adapt, learning how to navigate these complex environments. What made this experience especially rewarding was the need to simultaneously learn and apply new concepts and technologies in real-time, whether it was understanding large-scale infrastructure or tackling specific technical challenges. This hands-on, fast-paced learning helped me retain knowledge exponentially faster, as I was immersed in real-world applications from the get-go.

Returning for my second summer (2024), I continued learning while aiming to make meaningful contributions to my team by applying the skills I had already developed. I focused on leveraging my existing knowledge to take on greater responsibility and provide tangible support to the projects we worked on. Some of the highlights were working on data centers, research initiatives, coding with the Revit API, and computer vision which allowed me to engage in more technical and creative problem-solving. Revisiting some of the projects from my first summer was particularly satisfying, as it gave me a deeper perspective on how I had grown as an engineer and how I could contribute more effectively to new challenges.

Throughout both summers, I had the privilege of working with a team that was not only technically brilliant but also incredibly supportive. My colleagues constantly provided me with new challenges, ensuring that I was always learning and improving. Their guidance, patience, and encouragement gave me the confidence to tackle complex problems, while also fostering an environment where I could ask questions, take risks, and explore new ideas. The sense of camaraderie and teamwork was truly inspiring, and it played a huge role in my growth both professionally and personally.
